In 2016, I began examining nature and water through my Light Bulb Series. Each light bulb contained hand-tied flies that I had created stemming from my love of water, fishing, and nature. These flies symbolized the fragility of ecosystems which are frozen in time by the use of Resin (a petrochemical byproduct). By using something chemically based to suspend these flies, it illustrated the impact man has on our environment.
The Fractured Entanglement Seriesincludes a merging of these calculated yet fluid compositions from the Light Bulb Series. The way the net is placed over the viewer with the bulbs suspended above and around creates the statement that the one within the piece and the one who views the merging of person and piece is the catch offering. This series also offers an opportunity to interact with the artwork in a non-traditional way. With this work, the audience is able to take photos and touch the piece.
