The 18th Citywide African American Artists Exhibition opens June 19 at the University Museum at Texas Southern University, and it remains on view through July 26. Curated by Dr. Sarah Trotty, the exhibition is open to all artists of the African Diaspora in the greater Houston area.
Presented by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in collaboration with the Museum's patron group Five-A (the African American Art Advisory Association) and the University Museum at Texas Southern University, the Citywide African American Artists Exhibition offers artists the opportunity to show their work to a broader public, and to the collecting community.

ABOUT FELIPE LOPEZ AND THE HOOK SERIES:
Afro-Cuban Artist, Felipe Lopez is honored to have his work from the Hook series selected for this prestigious exhibition presented by the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Combing the fishing traditions of his Cuban heritage and thoughtfully merging it with psychology, Lopez shows the delicate balance and beautiful construction of oversized fly hooks and lures submerged through sculpture and painting. Ideals such as the use of people as lures, the melding of personal past and future, along with the waves and catches of major life events all vividly line the concept of the work featured in this show and beyond. The breath of detail and innovative craftsmanship play out in both his handmade lures and painting selected for this yearly exhibition.
